Test Excavations were undertaken across green-field locations in advance of Phase 3 of the proposed N2 Monaghan to Emyvale road realignment on 15-18 August 2017. A total of 10 machine-assisted test-trenches were excavated, amounting to 1615 linear metres (2907 sq. m), and an additional 455 sq. m area comprising c. 14% of the Lands Made Available for the scheme. A total of two archaeological sites were identified in the course of this test-excavation. Carrigans 1 was an isolated pit recorded at ITM 0667518, 0841952 and Cornacreeve 1 comprised two pits recorded at ITM 0667659, 0843144. Both sites were excavated under separate licences.
