A planning application with respect to a Poultry House development resulted in the issuing of a Request for Further Information by the Planning Authority including that an Archaeological Impact Assessment be prepared, and that such include a programme of archaeological testing. The site is located in close proximity to two monuments, MO0021-011 - Linear Earthwork (Black Pigs Race) and MO021-002 – Ringfort.
A total of 13 test trenches were excavated in the area of the proposed development and nothing of interest was uncovered.
A hedge to the east of the existing entrance was planted across a section of the Linear Earthwork. This required removal in order to achieve improved ‘sight-lines’ and it was recommended that the hedge be removed by hand-cutting at the base following which the resultant stumps should be treated with a proprietary chemical to halt further growth.
