An assessment on the site of a proposed dwelling house was carried out in June 2017. The site was located in the same field and to the south-east of ME026-004 which is classified as an ‘embanked barrow’ and described as a ‘raised circular area defined by slight remains of bank (diam. 8m) with slight traces of external fosse and with no visible entrance.'
The site lies outside the Core and Buffer Zones of the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site. ME026-024, classified as a ‘prehistoric site - lithic scatter’ lies to the south-east.
Six trenches tested the footprint of the house, the driveway and the site of the percolation area. Archaeological material was not observed in any of them. Modern ploughmarks were exposed in Trench 5. A fragment of brick and a fragment of Willow Pattern ware were recovered from topsoil in Trench 5, otherwise no artefacts were found.
