The development site is situated at the eastern end of the core area of the BrĂș na Boinne World Heritage Site. The owner had applied for permission to retain a shed built here in 2016. Meath County Council asked for an archaeological assessment to accompany the application for planning for retention.
Seven trenches tested the area immediately around the shed to establish if there was evidence for the survival of archaeological material. It was found that the ground level had been reduced by approx. 0.4m down to subsoil; the area outside the footprint of the shed was backfilled with hardcore. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted in the subsoil.
The mound of soil that was removed during construction was also examined, but nothing was recovered apart from one sherd of 19th-century glazed red earthenware.
