A programme of topsoil stripping of a small area (8.5m x 4.5m) was undertaken immediately south of the southern range of the stables associated with Dowth Hall (Dowth, Co. Meath) and c.3m north of a small mound (ME020-012----). Geophysical survey had previously been undertaken by Earthsound (Detection Licence No.15R0125) to the south and east of the topsoil stripping area, with additional resistivity survey carried out by UCD School of Archaeology (Detection Licence No.12R0080). However, it was not possible to satisfactorily survey the small area south of the stables, as metallic material and other rubbish has been dumped there. This material and topsoil was removed by a small mechanical excavator under licence in order to assess the archaeological potential of this area. The area was disturbed due to the presence of a large tree stump and an electrical/telephone pole. A few stones found near the tree stump may represent slippage from the nearby mound.
