An assessment, including test trenching, was carried out in advance of a proposed development to the rear of an existing public house, for inclusion with the application for planning permission. Part of the licensed premises is a Protected Structure.
Four test trenches were excavated by mechanical digger, to the top of the subsoil. On the same day, four holes were excavated for percolation tests, and the excavation was monitored. No material of an archaeological nature was disclosed by the test trenching, or during the monitor.
The site is situated on the extreme north-east corner of the buffer zone of the Brugh na Boinne World heritage site.
