Upgrading took place of the Belmullet sewerage scheme at Belmullet (Béal an Mhuirthead) on the Mullet Peninsula, County Mayo. The monitoring, on behalf of Roadbridge, took place periodically from June 2016 until August 2017. This development comprised of the construction of main sewers, rising main, two pumping stations and a sea outfall in the townlands of Belmullet, Corclogh, Carn (Fowler), Tallagh, Atticonaun and Toorglass.
As per the recommendations of the archaeological assessment and as outlined in the licence application, the greenfield areas located south of the town of Belmullet along the Toorglass Road and adjacent to the secondary school on the outskirts of the town were monitored.
Monitoring also took place at the site of the new sewerage treatment plant which was constructed in the townland of Corclogh approximately 2km from the centre of the town. Included within this development was a marine outfall pipe of c.500m in length.
Two pumping stations were also built as part of this scheme. One is located on the pier behind Carter Square on Broadhaven Bay in Belmullet town. The second station was situated in the townland of Carn (Fowler) on land reclaimed from the sea. Trenching was also carried out in the town of Belmullet.
