Monitoring of the excavations associated with the Castlerea and environs water scheme commenced in 2017 and final pipelaying was completed in April 2018. The monitoring of the topsoil stripping in the three areas of grassland revealed a similar stratigraphy with sod and topsoil overlay the natural light brown clay. Monitoring of the excavations along the roads was carried out at intermittent stages with continuous monitoring of the areas close to Recorded Monuments. The stratigraphy encountered revealed the road surface overlying the natural brown clay and/or the gravel stoney layer. No features and/or finds or archaeological significance were revealed over the course of the excavations.
