Following an impact assessment and geophysical survey (JMLeigh surveys 17R0021) this large site proposed for a residential development adjacent to the ecclesiastical complex at Mungret was tested. Forty four trenches were excavated at the site. Features of an archaeologicalnature, including ditches and pits, were discovered in a number of the trenches and were concentrated in the south-western portion of the site. A metal detection survey (17R0054) was carried out in the trenches and on the spoil excavated, though nothing of an archaeological nature was retrieved during this survey. An impact assessment of the proposed development was undertaken on the discovered archaeological features. At the time of writing, no decision on further archaeological mitigation had been made.
