Monitoring took place of site works associated with the extension to the existing prison facility at Limerick Prison and an area adjacent known as Costelloe’s Yard, Mulgrave Street, Limerick. The site is situated immediately beside and to the south of the zone of notification for LI005-017—, Historic Town. The site is designated as two protected structures, RPS 360 and RPS 361 (Limerick Prison and adjacent to the former Artillery Barracks, now known as Costelloe’s Yard), in the Limerick City Development Plan 2010-2016 (Limerick City Council 2010).

The monitoring of the development, which included some demolition, and the digging of service and foundation trenches across nine areas (labelled A-I) was undertaken intermittently from the April 20, 2016 to April 7, 2017 with very intermittent inspection works until November 2017. Thirteen small finds were made, all from the overburden across all areas, which included pottery fragments, and glass bottles, all dating to the later nineteenth to twentieth century.
