Eight trenches were excavated on the site of the proposed renovation and development of Ballyneety House as a residence. The site of an unclassified castle was generally located to the south of the extant, ruinous house. A ditch (3m wide, 1m deep) was uncovered in one of the trenches c. 30m to the south-east of the house. Depressions in two other trenches approximately 23m to the south of the ruinous farmhouseprobably represent a continuation of this ditch feature. It is suggested that the farmhouse likely stands on the site of the castle, and the ditch feature may represent the remains of an enclosing feature of the bawn of the castle.
In addition to the testing an archaeological record of the farmhouse was undertaken, and two limestone ex-situ architectural fragments, a sill, and a portion of the head of a pointed-arched doorway, consistent with castle/tower house features, were recorded at the site.
