Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of two new stairways at Parke’s Castle were carried out over a four day period in May/June, 2017. Foundations for the new stairwells were excavated in two areas to the north-west and three areas to the south-east within the bawn wall. Two walls which had been recorded during the excavations at the castle in the 1970s were exposed in Trenches 1 and 2 at the north-western end of the bawn. These walls were part of the 19th-century stable complex, much of which was rebuilt in the 1980s, with the exception of the northernmost section.
