Archaeological excavations took place at Wolfe Tone Street, Kilkenny in advance of the construction of the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme. This excavation was located in the grounds of the HSE building (formerly the Kilkenny Fever Hospital) on Wolfe Tone Street.

The excavation identified archaeological features and artefacts that dated to the medieval and post-medieval periods. The medieval features comprised several linear ditches and drains, and some pits. The medieval artefacts comprised pottery sherds and included an anthropomorphic jug neck.

The post-medieval archaeology comprised pits, and stone walls. The post-medieval artefacts comprised pottery sherds and clay pipe fragments. Following the completion of the excavation, the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme was constructed at this location.
