Monitoring was carried out between August and November 2017 of topsoil stripping in greenfield areas associated with pipe laying for the Thomastown and Inistioge Water Supply Scheme. The monitored locations were at the Grenan Borehole and associated pipeline to the public road leading to Grenan Reservoir; within the existing Grenan Reservoir; within the proposed Inistioge Reservoir; the construction corridor of the scour/outfall pipe from the proposed Inistioge Reservoir to the River Nore and the construction corridor of the watermain from the proposed Inistioge Reservoir to the Thomastown Road.
A large burnt stone spread was revealed within the construction corridor for the watermain north of the Inistioge Reservoir, close to the Thomastown Road, in the townland of Kilmacshane. This archaeological site was subsequently excavated under an extension to this licence (see separate entry).
No other archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were found.
