The works comprised the excavation of 10 test trenches in the footprint of the proposed development. A Recorded Monument, a building (KK033-011), lies approximately 30m west of the proposed development site. The building site was identified on both the first edition OS map and the subsequent 2nd edition with the words “Site of Old Court” and "Old Court (site of)" No visible surface expression that might be associated with the radius of the Old Court site or any potential archaeological anomaly were in evidence.
The trenches measured 1.6m in width and up to 10m in length. Five of the trenches were aligned roughly north-south across the development site and 5 were aligned east-west. The trenches were excavated to a maximum depth of 0.4m. The topsoil was a dark brown silty clay with a moderate amount of small sub-angular stones. No finds were recovered. The underlying natural layer comprised a moderately compact, mid orange/brown clayey silt with occasional medium sized angular stone.
The trenches were found to be devoid of any features of an archaeological nature.
