Monitoring of ground works assisted by a metal-detecting survey (17R0095) was undertaken during the construction of a single dwelling house and associated features in the vicinity of a levelled enclosure (KK010-063----). There is no surface trace of the enclosure but its location was discerned on consulted aerial photography in the area approx. 10m to the north of the development site. Following consultation with the developer the proposed location of a percolation area was moved to avoid the enclosure and no elements of the development will now extend into its location.
Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during monitoring and the area in closest proximity to the enclosure appeared to have been disturbed when a field boundary shown in this area on the historic OSI maps was removed by machine in the 20th century. The location of the enclosure was marked out and a protective cordon will be maintained for the duration of construction works.
