Stage (iii) archaeological excavation at Newhall 1 was carried out in advance of the M7 Naas–Newbridge Bypass Upgrade and the M7 Osberstown Interchange and R407 Sallins Bypass Scheme, Co. Kildare. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing; it was further assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services undertaken by Irish Archaeological Consultancy (IAC) Ltd.
Newhall 1 consisted of a cremation pit, a ring-ditch, a large pit and numerous agricultural furrows.
The excavation area was extended to investigate whether archaeology extended to the north-west and north-east and to ensure a suitable buffer around the ring-ditch. With the exception of the continuation of the previously exposed furrows no features of archaeological significance were uncovered in this ‘extended’ area.
