Stage (i) archaeological testing was carried out within Test Areas 1–4 in advance of the M7 Naas–Newbridge Bypass Upgrade, Co. Kildare in 2017. Testing was carried out under Ministerial Direction No. A072. The work was undertaken on behalf of Kildare County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
A total of 5,762 linear metres of test trenches were excavated in Test Areas 1–4 within the Lands Made Available for the scheme. A total of four sites containing archaeological potential were identified in these areas during Stage (i) works which have been designated as Ladytown 1 and 2 and Newhall 1 and 2. These consisted of two pits, a cremation pit, and a burnt mound.
The sites were subsequently subject to Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Archaeological Services.
