Monitoring was undertaken for Phase 13-15 works, waste cell and access road construction at Drehid Waste Management Facility, Timahoe West, Co. Kildare. The programme of work was carried out in response to planning conditions attached to the proposed development. It follows a previous monitoring report of works carried out during Phases 11 and 12 by Tim Coughlan and Brenda Fuller.
Monitoring of Phase 13–15 works began in January 2017 and was completed in August 2017, with works continuing intermittently throughout this time. During monitoring of works, it was revealed that the peat deposits in the area varied in depth from a minimum 1m to a maximum 3m. The deposits exposed during the course of the groundworks all appeared to date to the early Holocene, with evidence of primal mixed oak woodland giving way as bog development commenced.
No features of archaeological significance were noted during monitoring of this phase of works.
