Testing was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct an inert waste recovery facility at Garrynadur, Lispole Co. Kerry. A section of the zone of notification of ringfort KE044-135 extends into the southern limits of the proposed facility. Three east-west orientated test trenches (2m wide with total length of 305m) were excavated across the northern limits of the zone of notification of ringfort. The depth varied from 0.25m to 0.6m. Topsoil consisted of loose mid-brown material with frequent stone inclusions. This overlay orange silty-clay stony subsoil with large boulders protruding here and there. Nothing of archaeological interest was found in any of the trenches.
