The test excavation was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct a dwelling house at Listrim townland, The Spa, Tralee, Co. Kerry. The south-west limit of the site is c.68m from the zone of notification of a recorded monument, classified as an enclosure, KE028-091. Seven 60m long x 1.8m wide linear test trenches (T1-T7), were excavated across the limits of the proposed development, comprising good quality pasture. Topsoil varied in depth from 0.2-0.4m. Subsoil comprised a mix of sterile grey, yellow and orange silty sandy clay material with copious amounts of shale bedrock. Nothing of archaeological interest was discovered in any of the test trenches.
