Five trenches were mechanically excavated across the proposed development site in advance of the construction of a hotel car park. Two small deposits of burnt stone and blackened soil were revealed in a trench at the eastern side of the site. These measured 1.5m east-west by 1.1m and 0.8m north-south by 1.25m and were 15m apart. Full excavation of these features is recommended if development proceeds.
