Pre-development testing was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct a landfill site at Sheans East townland, c.3.5km west-north-west of Killarney, Co. Kerry. Five test trenches were proposed for excavation in the southern limits of the site. Due to a large amount of rubbish and introduced material, five truncated test trenches or large sondages, c. 3m long x 1.5m wide x 2m deep were opened. All contained the same mixed modern re-deposited material. No archaeology was noted.
