A total of twelve test trenches (aligned south-west/north-east) were excavated across the site. Topsoil consisted of a dark brown, organic (roots), sandy clay, 0.1-0.2m in depth. The underlying subsoil horizon consisted of light brown, stony, sandy clay varying in depth from 0.15-0.6m with occasional sea shells present throughout both these layers. Finally, the natural basal layer is light grey, stony boulder clay with intermittent patches of bright orange/yellow clay. All trenches showed intermittent and irregular plough furrows with no uniform alignment and occasional modern stone-filled drains throughout the site, particularly the easternmost field. No archaeological features or material were identified.
