Testing was carried out at Garraun South, Oranmore on 23 January 2017 using a 12 tonne backhoe excavator with a 1.8m wide ditching bucket. There are no recorded monuments within the confines of the proposed development area, the nearest monument is a megalith (GA095-044-) located 250m to the west in the same townland.
Three trenches were excavated along the north-south axis with seven perpendicular offsets given a cumulative trench length of 486m.The testing programme exposed a largely natural stratigraphy with evidence of modern dumping to the west of the site. No finds were recovered nor were there any deposits or features of archaeological potential noted.
