Monitoring was undertaken for Phase 1 of the Tuam Regional Water Supply Scheme Extensions. This scheme comprises new water pipelines for Tuam, Dunmore and Kilkerrin to the north, and Oranmore and Craughwell to the south. The southern pipeline route leads from Carrowmoneash (Oranmore) to Seefin via Craughwell. The northern pipeline is divided into two sections: Slievedarragh (Tuam) to Dunmore and Monairmore to Slieveroe via Kilkerrin. In advance of this pipeline work, trial pits were excavated along roadways as part of a programme of geotechnical investigations. The assessment recommended monitoring in the vicinity of known archaeological sites and monuments and other areas of archaeological potential. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during this phase of the project.
