An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed extension of the tourist facilities at Clareview Holiday Park, Kesh, Co. Fermanagh.
A series of 22 test trenches were excavated by mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket. The depths of the trenches remained fairly consistent across the development area with a typical depth of 0.3-0.4m. Deeper deposits were noted in Trenches 3 and 5 with the depth extending up to 0.6m. The trenches were excavated through a relatively compact clay topsoil directly onto subsoil. This consisted of a plastic clay glacial till which varied in colour from orange-grey-grey/brown. A large number of modern agricultural drains were identified throughout the site, particularly in Trenches 12-21. A modern agricultural field boundary was also identified within Field 3.
No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
