An archaeological evaluation was carried out in response to a request from DfC: HED under Planning Policy Statement 6 BH3 with regards to proposed development of Phase 4 of the Crevinish Caravan Park, Kesh, County Fermanagh. The evaluation consisted of the excavation of a series of strategically placed test pits and test trenches across the proposed development site, excavated under archaeological supervision. Testing did not identify any archaeological material within the boundary of the proposed development area for Phase 4.
No known Sites and Monuments Record sites are recorded within the proposed area but the Industrial Heritage Record notes IHR 00798, a Corn Kiln, in Crevinish as it appeared on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey (OS) map (it did not appear on later maps). The plotting of this in the north-east of the proposed area is an error and it in fact falls outside the proposed site to the north-east. An archaeological investigation under license AE/07/128 was undertaken in July and August 2007 in advance of the proposed development of lands at Crevinish House, 57 Crevinish Road. Monitoring of topsoil stripping and groundworks uncovered a ruined limekiln and associated quarry rather than a corn kiln.
