An archaeological assessment in the form of licensed archaeological monitoring was carried out at the site of the site of a proposed development project at 1 Granby Row, Dublin 1, including landscaping amenity works to the rear courtyard. The building is currently in use as a college and is listed as a protext structure (Ref No.3268). The site is located within the Z8 Georgian Conservation Area and a Red Hatch Conservation Area. Although the site contains no Recorded Monuments listed within the Monuments and Places, it is however considered a zone of archaeological interest.
No. 1 Granby Row is described by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage as an attached former pair of two-bay three-storey houses over basement, built c.1820. The building was originally a pair of three-storey houses and the later adaptions have altered the overall composition and original design of the buildings.
Monitoring was carried out on 27 July 2017. All groundworks within the courtyard were monitored. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified.
