An Archaeological Impact Assessment including testing was carried out at 10 Liberty Lane in April 2017 as part of a further information request from the city Archaeologist at Dublin City Council (2113/17). The development site is located opposite a Recorded Monument, St. Kevin’s Church and graveyard (DU018-020078) on Camden Row. The development lands are also located within DU018-020, Dublin City, and situated in the vicinity of a Dutch Billy-style house (DU018–020647) and a holy well (DU018-020336) which are subject to statutory protection under Section 12 of the National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994. Cartographic evidence as well as previous excavations and site assessments show that the area was not developed until the early nineteenth century.
The test trenches excavated revealed deep deposits of modern rubble including red brick, concrete, animal bone and modern ceramics. Nothing of archaeological significance was found. A building located on the southern edge of the site could not be accessed on the day of the testing and it is recommended that this area be tested or monitored when the building is demolished and foundation trenches are excavated.
