The site of the proposed residential development is located to the south-east of Donabate town centre occupying a large quadrant of land between the New Road, the Corballis Road and the Dublin Belfast Railway Line. The overall development covers an approximate area of c.29.5ha and is currently set out as six medium to large sized fields under tillage. The site contains no RMP sites, although recently discovered excavation sites are located in the wider area. Previous assessments (test trenching and geophysical survey; see 06E0027) undertaken across the site have identified a substantial earth-cut enclosure of probable early medieval date (Corballis 6).
Thirty-eight test trenches totaling 10,455 linear meters were excavated within the site. Two archaeological sites were identified in the current assessment, both of which were subsequently excavated under separate licences. These are:
Corballis 8 (Fulacht fiadhdh; 18E0106)
Corballis 9 (Fulacht fia; 18E0107).
