Scotch House is located on the corner of 6–7 Burgh Quay and Hawkins Street, Dublin 2, on the south side of the River Liffey. The site is delimited by Burgh Quay to the north, and Hawkins Street to the east, while the former headquarters of the Dublin Gas Company bounds the development to the west and south. Scotch House occupies ground that was reclaimed from the Liffey in the 17th century, and is situated within the Zone of Archaeological Constraint for Dublin City.
The assessment consisted of the monitoring of seven site investigative pits, a crane base, and a series of piling caps. Deposits dating to the 18th and 19th centuries were identified, in addition to two post-medieval boundary walls; the walls were not impacted upon by the development and remained in situ. No 17th-century reclamation deposits or estuarine material was uncovered, and the disturbance onsite was limited.
