A total of 3 test trenches were excavated within the site of the proposed development on 7 June 2017. All contained evidence of the demolition of Victorian dwellings, with Trench 3 containing standing below-ground walls representing basement/ground floor walls associated with a row of Victorian dwellings which were demolished prior to the construction of St Mary’s Mansions. These are clearly depicted on the OS 25 inch map (1906-09). No archaeological features or deposits were recorded.
