A total of 3 test trenches were excavated within the site of the proposed development on 7 June 2017. All contained evidence of the demolition of Victorian dwellings, with Trench 3 containing standing below-ground walls representing basement/ground floor walls associated with a row of Victorian dwellings which were demolished prior to the construction of St Mary’s Mansions. These are clearly depicted on the OS 25 inch map (1906–09). No archaeological features or deposits were recorded.
