Due to site conditions, it was agreed with Dublin City Council to excavate a single trench outside the upstanding block-built structure. This trench revealed the presence of a compact layer of brown loam and stone and concrete rubble extending to a depth of 0.56m above a layer of brown gravelly loam garden soil. The garden soil measured 0.34m in thickness and lay directly above the natural orange clay and gravels. No archeological features or deposits were identified and no finds were recovered. It is likely that these layers extend beneath the proposed development to the south-west.
