The entire site was reduced to approximately 0.26-0.82m below current ground level during groundworks. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified during monitoring. The site was originally covered in an expansive area of hard standing surfacing, directly below which was a construction layer of hard core. The general appearance of the site suggests that it was partially levelled and stripped of its original topsoil and imported material introduced to the site. This may have been carried out during the development of the military parade square that once occupied the site. The only feature recorded during the ground reduction was a narrow Victorian red brick drain that extended across the site roughly east-west. Service trenches were visible within the northern extent of the site.
