Monitoring of topsoil stripping was carried out in relation to a proposed residential development at lands adjacent to 72 Seapatrick Road, Banbridge, Co Down. A desk-based study has confirmed that the proposed development is located adjacent to a partially destroyed rath (DOW027:009). The exact nature and extent of this site remains uncertain, with the potential for some remains of the rath ditch or other associated features to survive within the site boundaries, therefore monitoring of topsoil stripping was required in response to planning conditions imposed.
Monitoring was carried out over 1 day within the footprint of the proposed development during which time no archaeological features or deposits were identified. It is therefore recommended that no further archaeological works are required.
