A trenching scheme was carried out at the proposed development at Laurelhill Solar Farm, Donaghcloney, County Down. A series of 38 test trenches, located on geophysical anomalies, totalling 1387m in length, were mechanically excavated between the 14 and 18 August 2017. Six areas with possible archaeological features were later extended and further investigated between 22 and 28 August 2017. Small burnt mounds were uncovered in Trenches 5 and 38 and three small pits in Trenches 14 and 26. Their locations and extents were recorded and then all were re-covered and preserved in-situ. A ploughed-out rath (DOW 020:084) was located adjacent to the develompent but no features relating to it were encountered.
