Stage (i) standard test excavations were undertaken along the route of the proposed N56 Kilkenny to Letterilly Road Improvement Scheme on behalf of Donegal County Council in order to assess the nature, extent and character of any potential archaeological sites identified along the proposed route. Test trenching was carried out on 22-31 August 2017 in mixed weather conditions. A total of 99 test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the scheme. A total of 3508 linear metres (6314.4 sq. m) were excavated at the site (11.2% of the Lands Made Available). No archaeological features were found.
