Testing took place on the site of proposed public amenities at Rathmullan Pier on 18 January 2017. Three test trenches comprising 26m in total length were excavated. The trenches proved that the entire development area consists of reclaimed land, which is made up of a number of deposits of sand, stone and hardcore measuring more than 1.5m in depth. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were found in any of the trenches.
