A total of 19 linear test trenches comprising 2542m² were excavated. A number of field drains, field boundaries, ceramic pipe drains and other modern features were encountered. Generally the fields at the northern portion of the site (Trenches 1 – 5, 18 & 19) contained deposits of fill material under the topsoil, probably part of the landscaping associated with the by-pass constructed in the late 1990s, while the fields to the south (Trenches 6 – 17) contained deep deposits of peat - some areas also contained fill material. A number of potential archaeological features were identified and on investigation proved to be non-archaeological. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were found in any of the test trenches. No archaeological artefacts were found during inspection of the topsoil from the trenches. However, one piece of burnt flint was found in the topsoil near the north-western end of Trench 6. Given the amount of fill that had been introduced to many parts of the landholding, it is unclear whether this find was deposited on the site in prehistory or if had been introduced to the site from elsewhere in more recent times.
