An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a residential development on lands at Galliagh, south of Skeoge Link Road and north of Nos 14-19 Lower Galliagh Road, Derry.
A total of 23 test trenches were excavated by mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket. The depths of the trenches varied greatly. Most of the trenches were excavated through topsoil, however some were excavated though some modern fills and/or building debris. The subsoil was predominately a yellowish-grey or orangey sand with inclusions of small stones.
No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
