A wade and metal detection survey of a proposed outfall was carried out. The wade survey commenced at the northern edge of the existing track along the confluence of the Saleen Stream and Cloyne/Knocknamaddree River as far as the stone bridge. The water was ankle deep and clear upstream (south) of the latter confluence. Water quality north of the confluence was cloudy and pungent. The survey was undertaken on a dry, calm day and visibility was good. A wade survey was considered suitable given the low water level. The outfall pipe will not enter the tidal or estuarine zone and will be confined to the stream. No structures were noted during the wade survey and a number of ‘hits’ were recorded during the metal detection survey. No excavation was undertaken as part of this metal detection survey and any items recorded were on the surface of the riverbed and visible to the naked eye. A number of other hits were noted for which no metal items were visible suggesting that they are buried in the river bed.
