Monitoring was to be carried out in advance of groundworks at the extension of a limestone quarry (Healy’s) at Ballynabointra, Milebush, Midleton, Co. Cork. The site comprised a single large field currently previously set out in pasture with a gentle north-south slope.
A site visit showed the westernmost section had already been topsoil stripped and quarried to a depth of 20m. The spoil from this area had been dumped on the eastern section where original soil profiles may still exist underneath the spoil. It is recommended to monitor the stripping of the area under the spoilheap when available.
