The permitted development site at Friars Rest, Townplots, Church Lane, Kinsale, was monitored on 31 July 2017. Three main foundation trenches were monitored and no archaeological finds, features or deposits were encountered. Natural boulder clay was exposed at the rear of the property and may have been truncated during the site clearance that took place for the existing bungalow in the 1960s/1970s. Some 19th/20th-century fill remained at the centre and front of the site through which the foundation trenches were excavated.
