Lackaneen 2 was located on the proposed N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom Road Project (Lot 2). The site lay on the flood plain of the River Sullane, in a large pasture field sloping downwards very slightly to the south towards the river.

The excavation has revealed evidence of at least two phases of activity. The excavated features were a series of possible pits or tree throw holes and numerous furrows that, where they intersected, truncated the pits.

Twenty irregularly-shaped possible pits were investigated. These features, which all had irregular shapes in plan and profile, could all have been accidentally caused by tree felling or stone clearance or other such activity. However, the pit fills appeared to be archaeological as they all contained charcoal from flecking to, in some cases, larger chunks.

In the absence of absolute dating it is not clear from where the charcoal-rich soil derived.
