The road development is to comprise approximately 22km of dual carriageway that includes four road-junctions and four bridge structures, the latter structures crossing the Bohill River, River Foherish, River Laney, and the River Sullane. The proposed roadway will diverge from the existing N22 to the west of Baile Bhuirne, re-joining the road to the south of Macroom, where it is to tie into a new roundabout at Coolcour.

Systematic visual inspection of the streambed/riverbed and bankside areas was undertaken at each location. In addition, where practicable, a comprehensive magnetometer survey by hand-held metal-detection was undertaken. No archaeologically significant material was revealed. The work was undertaken between 1 and 4 August 2017.
