Monitoring of site investigation works was undertaken between Bantry town and Kealkill, Co. Cork associated with the Bantry to Kealkill watermain project. The test trenches and pits were excavated along the existing roadway, except for one greenfield area at Arnageehy More Reservoir. Site investigation works took place in the townlands of Cappanaloha East, Bantry Demesne, Clashduff, Kilnaruane, Dromleigh North, Town Lots, Newtown, Dunamark, Mill-Lot, Caher, Gurteenore, Gortagarry, Derryginagh Middle, Derryginagh East, Derryginnagh West, Ardnageeny Beg, Ardnageeny More, Ardnacloghy, Lisheen, Breeny Beg, Kealkil and Maughanclea. Eleven features of archaeological significance were recorded in the investigation trenches: five stone culverts, one stone drain and five stone bridges. One trial pit was located at of Lisheen Bridge, a double-arch road bridge spanning the River Owvane, on the R584 Ballylickey-Keakill roadway. The trench revealed that a bedrock outcrop in the centre of the river had been utilised to construct the central pier of the bridge. Test trenches at Dunamark and Inchingearagh Bridges revealed the concrete surface of the bridges.
