The development site is located approximately 1km to the east of the medieval walled city and includes the former 19th-century Cork Blackrock and Passage Railway terminus (CO074-119002-). A single test trench was mechanically excavated across the available footprint at the south-east end of the development, at the site of platforms to the east of the former terminus. The truncated remains of the central platform, the north facing wall of the southern platform as well as the north and south railway lines, which had been robbed-out and subsequently infilled with modern waste material, were identified within the trench. A further phase of pre-development testing will be undertaken within the former railway terminus when the building is vacated.
