Test trenching was undertaken in response to a further information request from the planning authority, to identify any sub-surface archaeological remains that may be impacted by the proposed development.
Two test trenches were opened along the alignment of the proposed foundation trenches to a depth of 900mm. The remains of a masonry wall were located in one of the trenches, however, the wall was quite fragmentary and comprised one course of five limestone blocks; it is likely the wall constitutes a surviving element of an eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century structure associated with the extant Bakers Cottage.
